Ma Lakshmi Favourite mantra, Sri Suktam is one of the ‘Panch Suktam’, (Panch Suktam – Purusha Suktam, Vishnu Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam, Nila Suktam). Dedicated to Goddess Ma lakshmi, this stotra is taken from the Rigveda. This stotra is recited to get happiness by the grace of the Goddess.
It is believed that poverty never comes in the house where Goddess Ma Lakshmi resides. To persuade Goddess Ma Lakshmi, the person does many types of measures, worship-recitation, tricks, but it is said that if the person recites Shree Sukta of Ma Lakshmi on Friday, then bad luck stays far away from him.
Friday is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. This day is also considered to be the day of Maa Kali and Guru Shukracharya of demons.
What is the method of chanting Shree Sukta of Maa Lakshmi?
- First of all, get up in Brahma Muhurta, retire from daily work, take bath etc. and wear clean clothes.
- Clean the place where worship is to be done and install the idol or picture of Ma Lakshmi on a red silk cloth in which Mata Lakshmi is sitting on a lotus.
- Offer red flowers and other ingredients like gulal, rice, sandalwood etc. to Ma Lakshmi and make sure to offer kheer.
- According to Rigveda, reciting Shri Lakshmi Sukta according to the rules and regulations gives full results. Do this recitation on Friday morning or evening only after taking bath. Purity is very important in this.
- After bathing, it is considered best to wear white clothes and do this recitation in the place of worship or in the temple of Lakshmi ji.
- After worshiping Goddess Ma Lakshmi in Shodshopachar, light a lamp of ghee in front of Lakshmi ji. Then start reciting Shri Sukta.
- This lesson should not be done in haste, its wrong pronunciation will not give the result of the lesson. If you cannot recite in Sanskrit, then read its Hindi translation.
- For fulfillment of special wishes, this recitation is done even while performing Yagya. In which Kamalgatta mixed with cow’s ghee is offered along with Ahuti Swaha while reciting each mantra of Shree Sukta Strot during Havan.

ॐ हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम्।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आ वह ॥1॥
Meaning – O omniscient Agnidev! Invoke for me Lakshmidevi, who is of golden complexion, who wears gold and silver necklaces, who is as radiant as the moon, who is golden in colour.
तां म आ वह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम्।
यस्यां हिरण्यं विन्देयं गामश्वं पुरुषानहम् ॥2॥
Meaning – Fire! Invoke for me that Goddess Lakshmi, who never perishes and by whose arrival I will get gold, cows, horses and sons.
अश्वपूर्वां रथमध्यां हस्तिनादप्रमोदिनीम्।
श्रियं देवीमुप ह्वये श्रीर्मा देवी जुषताम् ॥3॥
Meaning – The goddess who has horses in front and chariots behind her and who is happy listening to Hastinad, I appeal to that only Sridevi; May Goddess Lakshmi be received by me.
कां सोस्मितां हिरण्यप्राकारामार्द्रां
ज्वलन्तीं तृप्तां तर्पयन्तीम्।
पद्मेस्थितां पद्मवर्णां
तामिहोप ह्वये श्रियम् ॥4॥
Meaning – I invoke here Goddess Lakshmi, who is in the form of Brahma, who smiles faintly, who is covered with a gold cover, who is compassionate, who is bright, who is full of grace, who is kind to her devotees, who sits on a lotus seat and who is multi-colored.
चन्द्रां प्रभासां यशसा ज्वलन्तीं
श्रियं लोके देवजुष्टामुदाराम्।
तां पद्मिनीमीं शरणं प्र पद्ये
अलक्ष्मीर्मे नश्यतां त्वां वृणे ॥5॥
Meaning – I take refuge in Goddess Lakshmidevi, who is as white as the moon, who is beautiful in beauty, who is resplendent with fame, who is worshiped by the deities in heaven, who is generous, who is multi-faced. May my poverty go away. I choose you as refuge.
आदित्यवर्णे तपसोऽधि जातो
वनस्पतिस्तव वृक्षोऽथ बिल्वः।
तस्य फलानि तपसा नुदन्तु
या अन्तरा याश्च बाह्या अलक्ष्मीः ॥6॥
Meaning – Oh light like the sun! It was because of your penance that the most auspicious Bilva tree was born among the trees. May its fruits remove our outer and inner poverty.
उपैतु मां देवसखः
कीर्तिश्च मणिना सह।
प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन्
कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे ॥7॥
Meaning – Goddess! May I get the glory of Devsakha Kubera and his friend Manibhadra and Daksha Prajapati’s daughter, that is, I may get wealth and fame. I am born in this nation, give me fame and wealth.
क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम्।
अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च सर्वां निर्णुद मे गृहात् ॥8॥
Meaning – I want to destroy Lakshmi’s elder sister Alakshmi (presiding deity of poverty), who remains dirty and emaciated due to hunger and thirst. Devi! Remove all kinds of poverty and evil from my house.
गन्धद्वारां दुराधर्षां नित्यपुष्टां करीषिणीम्।
ईश्वरीं सर्वभूतानां तामिहोप ह्वये श्रियम् ॥9॥
Meaning – Those who are fastidious and nityapushta and smelly mixed with cow dung (animals). I invoke Lakshmidevi, the mistress of all ghosts, whose form is the earth, here in my house.
मनसः काममाकूतिं वाचः सत्यमशीमहि।
पशूनां रूपमन्नस्य मयि श्रीः श्रयतां यशः ॥10॥
Meaning – May I get the fulfillment of the wishes and resolution of the mind and the truthfulness of the speech. May Sridevi come to our place in the form of cow etc. animals and different types of food items and in the form of fame.
कर्दमेन प्रजा भूता मयि सम्भव कर्दम।
श्रियं वासय मे कुले मातरं पद्ममालिनीम् ॥11॥
Meaning – We are the children of Kardam, the son of Lakshmi. Kardam Rishi! May you be born in our place and establish Lakshmidevi, the mother who wears the garland of lotuses, in our clan.
आपः सृजन्तु स्निग्धानि चिक्लीत वस मे गृहे।
नि च देवीं मातरं श्रियं वासय मे कुले ॥12॥
Meaning – Water creates aliphatic substances. Lakshmiputra Chiklit! You also reside in my house and make Goddess Lakshmidevi reside in my family.
आर्द्रां पुष्करिणीं पुष्टिं पिङ्गलां पद्ममालिनीम्।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आ वह ॥13॥
Meaning – Fire! Humid nature, lotus hand, Pushtirupa, Pitvarna, wearing a garland of lotuses, with a white glow like the moon, invoke the golden goddess Ma Lakshmi Devi at my place.
आर्द्रां यः करिणीं यष्टिं सुवर्णां हेममालिनीम्।
सूर्यां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आ वह ॥14॥
Meaning – Fire! Invoke Lakshmi Devi for me, who restrains the wicked, but who is gentle in nature, who is auspicious, who gives support, who is beautiful, who is golden, who is a golden garland, who is the sun and who is Hiranyamayi.
तां म आ वह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम्।
यस्यां हिरण्यं प्रभूतं गावो दास्योऽश्वान् विन्देयं पुरुषानहम् ॥15॥
Meaning – Fire! Invoke for me the indestructible Goddess Lakshmi, by whose arrival we get a lot of wealth, cows, maids, horses and sons.
यः शुचिः प्रयतो भूत्वा जुहुयादाज्यमन्वहम्।
सूक्तं पञ्चदशर्चं च श्रीकामः सततं जपेत् ॥16॥
Meaning – One who has the desire of Lakshmi, should be pious and restrained every day and offer oblations of ghee in the fire and continuously recite Shri Sukta containing these fifteen hymns.
पद्मानने पद्मविपद्मपत्रे पद्मप्रिये पद्मदलायताक्षि।
विश्वप्रिये विष्णुमनोऽनुकूले त्वत्पादपद्मं मयि सं नि धत्स्व ॥17॥
Meaning – Faced like a lotus! The one who keeps her lotus feet on the lotus flower! The one who has love in the lotus! The one with huge eyes like a lotus! Dear to the whole world! The one who behaves according to the mind of Lord Vishnu! You place your lotus feet in my heart.
पद्मानने पद्मऊरु पद्माक्षि पद्मसम्भवे।
तन्मे भजसि पद्माक्षि येन सौख्यं लभाम्यहम् ॥18॥
Meaning – The one with a face like a lotus! The one with Urupradesh like lotus! The one with eyes like lotus! The one who emerges from the lotus! Padmakshi! You follow me in the same way, so that I get happiness.
अश्वदायि गोदायि धनदायि महाधने।
धनं मे जुषतां देवि सर्वकामांश्च देहि मे ॥19॥
Meaning – Ashwadayini, Godayini, Dhandayini, Mahadhanswarupini O Goddess Ma Lakshmi ! May I always have wealth, you give me all the desired things.
पुत्रपौत्रधनं धान्यं हस्त्यश्वाश्वतरी रथम्।
प्रजानां भवसि माता आयुष्मन्तं करोतु मे ॥20॥
Meaning – You are the mother of the living beings. Bless my son, grandson, wealth, grain, elephant, horse, mule and chariot with long life.
धनमग्निर्धनं वायुर्धनं सूर्यो धनं वसुः।
धनमिन्द्रो बृहस्पतिर्वरुणो धनमश्विना ॥21॥
Meaning – Agni, Vayu, Surya, Vasugan, Indra, Brihaspati, Varuna and Ashwini Kumar – all these are glory.
वैनतेय सोमं पिब सोमं पिबतु वृत्रहा।
सोमं धनस्य सोमिनो मह्यं ददातु सोमिनः ॥22॥
Meaning – Hey Garuda! You have a drink. Indra, the destroyer of Vritrasura, should drink. May Garuda and Indra give the soma of the one who wishes to drink the rich soma, to me, the one who has the desire to drink soma.
न क्रोधो न च मात्सर्यं न लोभो नाशुभा मतिः।
भवन्ति कृतपुण्यानां भक्त्या श्रीसूक्तजापिनाम् ॥23॥
Meaning – Virtuous people, who chant Shree Sukta with devotion, neither get angry, nor jealous, nor greed can affect them, nor their intelligence gets corrupted.
सरसिजनिलये सरोजहस्ते
धवलतरांशुकगन्धमाल्यशोभे।
भगवति हरिवल्लभे मनोज्ञे
त्रिभुवनभूतिकरि प्र सीद मह्यम् ॥24॥
Meaning – Lotus dweller, the one who holds lotus in hand, the one who wears very white clothes, who is adorned with perfume and flowers, who is the beloved of Lord Vishnu, who bestows prosperity on all three worlds! Be pleased with me
विष्णुपत्नीं क्षमां देवीं माधवीं माधवप्रियाम्।
लक्ष्मीं प्रियसखीं भूमिं नमाम्यच्युतवल्लभाम् ॥25॥
Meaning – I bow to Lord Vishnu’s wife, Kshamaswarupini, Madhavi, Madhavpriya, Priyasakhi, Achyutavallabha, Bhudevi Bhagwati Lakshmi.
महालक्ष्म्यै च विद्महे विष्णुपत्न्यै च धीमहि।
तन्नो लक्ष्मीः प्रचोदयात् ॥26॥
Meaning – We know Vishnu’s wife Ma lakshmi and meditate on her. May she inspire us to walk on the path of Lakshmiji.
आनन्दः कर्दमः श्रीदश्चिक्लीत इति विश्रुताः।
ऋषयः श्रियः पुत्राश्च श्रीर्देवीर्देवता मताः ॥27॥
Meaning – The four famous sages named Anand, Kardam, Srid and Chiklit were there in the previous Kalpa. In the second Kalpa also they all became the sons of Lakshmi with the same name. Later, from those sons, Ma lakshmi became very luminous body, from the same Mahalakshmi even the deities were blessed.
ऋणरोगादिदारिद्र्यपापक्षुदपमृत्यवः।
भयशोकमनस्तापा नश्यन्तु मम सर्वदा ॥28॥
Meaning – Debt, disease, poverty, sin, hunger, untimely death, fear, grief and mental heat etc – may all these obstacles be destroyed forever.
श्रीर्वर्चस्वमायुष्यमारोग्यमाविधाच्छोभमानं महीयते।
धनं धान्यं पशुं बहुपुत्रलाभं शतसंवत्सरं दीर्घमायुः ॥29॥
Meaning – Bhagwati Ma lakshmi should provide life, longevity, health, wealth-grains, animals, attainment of many sons and a long life of hundred years for the human being and the human being should be blessed with them and get prestige.
